A man from Indonesia has made headlines for marrying his rice cooker in a traditional wedding ceremony. Khoirul Anam, a 29-year-old construction worker, said he wanted to prove how much he loves rice, a staple food in many Asian countries.
Anam’s wedding to his rice cooker was complete with a white veil and a kiss. He even posted photos of the ceremony on Facebook, which quickly went viral.
In an interview with VICE, Anam said that he came up with the idea of marrying his rice cooker after a conversation with his friends about the qualities of a good wife.
“I was holding a rice cooker during this conversation,” Anam said. “And I started to think about how much I love my rice cooker. It’s always there for me, it cooks my rice perfectly, and it never complains.”
Anam said that he knows that his marriage to his rice cooker is not legally binding, but he doesn’t care. He said that he is happy and that’s all that matters.
“I know that some people may think I’m crazy,” Anam said. “But I don’t care. I love my rice cooker and I’m proud to be married to it.”
While Anam’s wedding to his rice cooker may seem unconventional, it’s not the first time that a person has married an inanimate object. In recent years, there have been several reports of people marrying everything from trees to dolls to even their own pillows.
Some people may see these marriages as a publicity stunt or even a sign of mental illness. But for others, it’s a way to express their love and commitment to something that is important to them.
In Anam’s case, his rice cooker is more than just a kitchen appliance. It’s a symbol of his love for rice and his appreciation for the simple things in life.
And who knows, maybe his marriage to his rice cooker will inspire others to show their love for the things that are important to them in unique and unexpected ways.
