Charges Eyed Against Vloggers Behind Scripted Viral Video in Cebu

Authorities in Consolacion, Cebu are set to pursue legal action against the creators of a viral video that staged a fake incident involving a man with an alleged mental health condition attacking a bystander.

According to Police Lt. Rhuffy Federe, deputy chief for administration of the Consolacion Police, the video—posted by the Facebook page “LACION Vines”—was entirely fabricated for social media content and did not depict a real event.

The video, uploaded on June 25, shows a man pretending to be mentally unstable, causing a disturbance at a public market and striking a civilian. It quickly spread online, gaining over 4 million views and sparking concern among the community and netizens.

Federe noted that the video misled the public, stirred unnecessary fear, and was disrespectful to individuals with mental health conditions. Local authorities reportedly received several complaints from alarmed residents.

Following the online backlash, four out of five vloggers involved in the production appeared before the police and issued an apology.

Officials also revealed that the content appeared to mirror a separate, real-life case involving a person who was later admitted to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Police are now building a case based on possible violations tied to the dissemination of false information and causing public alarm.

Federe reminded content creators that exploiting sensitive issues and endangering public safety for views can lead to serious consequences.
