President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has chosen Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), replacing Gen. Rommel Marbil, who will retire on June 7. The turnover is set for June 2.

Torre, who once led the Quezon City Police and the Davao Region Police, was known for heading the arrest of KOJC leader Apollo Quiboloy and former President Rodrigo Duterte. He is part of PNPA Class of 1993 and will retire in 2027.
He will be the 31st PNP chief and the fourth under the Marcos administration.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez called Torre a strong and fearless leader who can restore the police force’s credibility. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla also praised Torre’s experience and leadership.
Outgoing PNP chief Marbil urged the police force to support Torre and expressed confidence in his ability to lead with integrity and vision.
